After a long wait, the stable version of Android 15 has been officially released. Last night, Google launched this update for Pixel 6 and newer models, including Pixel 6a, Pixel Fold, and the Pixel Tablet.
A key feature in this update is the introduction of “Private Space,” allowing users to lock sensitive apps with passwords or biometric security, keeping them hidden from multitasking and notifications. Anti-theft measures have also been improved, including “Theft Detection Lock” that uses AI and sensors to lock the device during suspected thefts. Users can also remotely lock stolen or lost devices by using their registered phone number to activate a security check on any available device.
For multitasking improvements, users can now pin or remove the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, which is a significant upgrade for foldable devices like the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Android 15 also enhances the camera’s low-light performance in third-party apps and adds more flash control options. Additionally, satellite messaging support, a feature recently introduced in iPhones, is now coming to Android devices.
For users with non-Pixel devices, there’s no confirmed timeline for when Android 15 will be available on other brands’ phones.
